Welcome fall’s fabulous weather and get to know one of Miami’s Urban Neighborhoods as Dade Heritage Trust and the Friends of The Underline host the “Showcasing Shenandoah” Bike Tour on Sunday, Oct. 14.
The free tour will explore Shenandoah, which was established in 1919 and was one of the first Neighborhoods in the City of Miami. The Shenandoah area was farmland and piney wood until the Miami real estate boom, when it was developed by Virginia developers, hence the name. It is now home to a significant number of historic and beautiful homes.
“It’s wonderful that urban Miami has so many incredible places to explore,” said Dade Heritage Trust Executive Director Christine Rupp, adding that the nonprofit has recently been awarded a $50,000 grant by the State of Florida to do a survey of Shenandoah and its historic buildings.
This free 10-mile ride (round trip) starts at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, from Dade Heritage Trust headquarters, 190 SE 12 Terrace, Miami. Ride leaders will provide safety guidelines as cyclists make their way through the tour.
Participants must provide their own bikes, but if they don’t happen to own one there are Citibike kiosks located nearby.
