Florida Bulldog, an independent, nonprofit news site provides authoritative reporting in the public interest, is celebrating its 8th Anniversary of nonprofit watchdog journalism in South Florida at its annual fundraiser. The South Florida community is invited to join Florida Bulldog founder and award-winning investigative reporter, Dan Christensen and his well-seasoned staff at YOLO in Ft. Lauderdale on November 14 for a complimentary drink and light bites.
Florida Bulldog relies on the generous support of donors and sponsors to continue telling the stories that need to be told, which is essential to a free and democratic society. Since 2009, Florida Bulldog’s original investigative reporting has exposed injustice, corruption and held those in public decision-making positions accountable for their actions.
Across the country, a new nonprofit journalism model is emerging; online news sites are taking up the slack and delivering watchdog news in the public interest. Readers are beginning to contribute to new public media news sources instead of paying subscription fees to for-profit newsrooms. Financial support from the community is needed to help pay Florida Bulldog’s experienced reporters to go into the courts, the community, and the offices of government to find and tell important stories that are not being reported by local newspapers.
Florida Bulldog has registered with NewsMatch.org, a national campaign to encourage grassroots support for nonprofit news organizations. Now through Dec. 31, 2017, individual donations up to $1,000 each will be doubled by News Match partners.
