BOCA RATON, Fla. (August 20, 2018) – The University Galleries in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University will Present, “New Art: 2018 South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship Visual and Media Artists Exhibition” from Saturday, Sept. 15 through Saturday, Oct. 27 in the Schmidt and Ritter Art Galleries, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. There will be an exhibition opening reception on Friday, Sept. 14 at 6:30 p.m. beginning in the Schmidt Center Gallery and moving to the Ritter Art Gallery through 8:30 p.m. The exhibition features 12 artists from four southeastern Florida counties who have won the prestigious annual South Florida Cultural Consortium grant. The opening reception will feature a performance by one of the 2018 grantees, Kat Hernandez, in the Schmidt Center Gallery. The exhibition, opening reception and related public programs (to be announced later) are free and open to the public. Each year, the South Florida Cultural Consortium awards $7,500 or $15,000 visual and media arts fellowships to 12 artists. The award is one of the most lucrative individual artist grants in the United States, indicating that the “Consortium” fellowship is hotly contested each year by the region’s best visual and media artists.
