Broward Performing Arts Foundation Presents: ‘Under the Sea’ – A Family Celebration
Calling all sea-loving families! Get ready to make a splash during the most fin-tastic event of the year with ‘Under the Sea — A Family Celebration’ at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, December 16 beginning with a fun family brunch at 11 a.m. in the Mary N. Porter Riverview Ballroom and followed by the opening performance of Slow Burn Theatre Company’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid in the Amaturo Theater at 1 p.m.
In addition to a variety of themed buffet stations and beverage options for children and adults, families will embrace their creative side by diving into ocean-inspired arts and crafts, face painting and posing for amazing photo ops that will transport them to enchanted ocean depths. A DJ Dance Party will also get everyone into the swim of things before the performance. Proceeds from the Under the Sea — A Family Celebration support the Broward Center’s arts-in-education and community engagement programs.
At 1 p.m. the curtain will rise for Disney’s The Little Mermaid, based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film. Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a splashy musical extravaganza that puts the “sea” in the holiday season with a love story for the ages. When Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, she bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs, but the bargain is not what it seems. With music by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a compelling book by Doug Wright, the musical features irresistible songs including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.” Performances continue through Sunday, December 31 with an open captioned performance Sunday, December 24 at 2 p.m. This production is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Tables for Under the Sea — A Family Celebration are available for $2,500 and include the fun brunch for ten guests and ten prime performance tickets to Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
