4-day workshop, March 28-31, 2023 (9:30 am-4:30 pm daily with a 1-hour lunch break)

This workshop will combine the creativity and limitless potential of studio painting from photos with information gathered from life and/or master copies to create vibrant, dynamic Cityscapes and Landscapes. We’ll explore every stage of a studio landscape in a straightforward way to learn about all elements of painting. We’ll study composition and design through thumbnails; color through short life studies and/or master copies. Linear and aerial perspective will be explained clearly. Demonstrations will help students understand lighting and atmospheric effects, depth and paint application. Gavin will work with each student to help them get to the heart of their idea and communicate it as clearly as possible. Students will emerge from class with a greater understanding of how to paint AND a finished Cityscape (or landscape) painting! Any level of artist will benefit greatly from this workshop.
