“Tour de force” aptly describes this exposition by the Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches, with a diverse and highly entertaining program of world literature.

Saint-Saëns’ intricate “Tarantelle” which features a flute/clarinet duet performed by Tracy Conner and Lois Richardson, as well as the fiery virtuosic piece “Granada,” performed by artist-in-residence Kyle Mechmet, are each an American premier for band.

The band’s incredible brass shine in both John Williams’ “The March from 1941” and the iconic patriotic march “National Emblem.”

“The Worried Drummer” is exactly that, showing the section leader’s desperation when her entire section goes on strike.

Other sections in the band come to the fore with “Trumpets Olé,” Simeone’s “Flute Cocktail,” and “Sax, Wind and Funk” which pointedly revives horn hits of the ’70s.

“When the Saints Go Marching In” covers it all, from the funeral cortege to a shouting Dixieland conclusion and then ending with Louis Armstrong’s familiar tagline “Oh yeah.”  Don’t miss this wonderful and fun concert!
